A ‘hen’ party makes it sound quite dull doesn’t it? Like a load of chickens sitting around knitting
April 22, 2008
Last weekend was the hen do in London for my mate getting wed in too weeks; although I agree with her that ‘bachelorette’ sounds a bit more… exciting. We started off with a trip round the Tate Britain to the the Peter Doig exhibition. It was pretty good. I quite liked the paintings which show white modernist buildings through dark forests and swamps, but I was less keep on the figures. I could have done ‘um.
Then we got some lunch and looked over the river at MI5 – if it’s so damn secret why do they have a headquarters you can see from space? – then across to the West End for Avenue Q. Weird enough – Sesame Street but in a way that’ll fuck up your childhood memories, but very funny if you can get past the puppet sex. Then dinner at the Texas embassy. Interesting fact I got from the back of the menu; the original Texas embassy (as in the embassy for the real country of Texas) was founded in a wine vault in London. Sounds about right doesn’t it?
It wasn’t a pissed hen do *ahem* I mean Bachelorette party, but it was fun and I got to see a load more of London. We went to this little cafe in Covent Garden on Sunday called Coffee, Cake and Kink (http://www.coffeeckeandkink.com – warning; don’t go here if you don’t like leather and drawings of unnaturally large male anatomy). That says it all really. Nice cafe though.
MacBookTastic

It’s white. It’s beautiful. It’ll be out of date in 6 months. Such is my gorgeous new MacBook, on which I am typing right now. This should mark a new era of internet activity for me. Instead of needing five bits of hardware and bloody Windows Movie Maker to post to YouTube, here I will be able to produce something of infinitely better quality in a few clicks. It’s a lovely lovely thing that has severely depleted my finances. But bugger it. It’s pretty.
In other news, I’ve learnt to solder at work. Thats right; I can attach one bit of metal to another bit of metal. I’m officially a fire hazard.
I’ve been seeing the photographer for nearly a month and liking him more every day. This does not bode well for internet activity of the summer, but makes me very happy.
I’ve decided I’m absolutely going to Reading Festival. Rage Against the Machine, The Killers, Metallica, Queens of the Stone Age, Bloc Party, Tenacious D, We Are Scientists, Slipknot, Avenge Sevenfold, Pendulum…. WHO could not go for a line-up like that? Especially when they already bought there ticket at a reduced price? I might not camp, but I’m going; and it’s going to be incredible. I’m especially pleased that the organisers have brought back metal Sunday; it’s like classic Reading.
So it looks like a vintage summer, which I feel about ready for after the last year… see you all there. Especially those I missed at Nerifest on Saturday. Have I mentioned how sick I am that I couldn’t go?
I’m such an internet sherker
April 8, 2008
Yeah I’m still just not putting the effort in at all am I? It’s just busyness guys. I’m in Bristol most weekends now, and between seeing people and proof listening/ freelancing, I’ve not got many evenings free either. I only managed to put so much effort in to stuff over the winter as I didn’t have much else to be getting on with.
I can’t feel too sorry about not being around so much, as life is so good. Getting on really, really well with the new bloke, and I’m earning enough now to have ordered my… wait for it… MACBOOK! WOOO! 250GB hard drive, 2GB Ram which I’ll upgrade myself to 4, and 2.4 Ghz processor, DVD burner… oooo I can’t wait! It’s coming next week. Expect many videos of me going “woo look what I can do! I love Macs.”
Unti then I’m going to continue to be lazy out of necessity ie I need to make the money to pay for more beautiful new toy. But I won’t disapear completely. Some people won’t let me (dammit you stickam spammers…)
Aw no yawn….
March 28, 2008
Sorry for lack of internet activity recently… if you are one of my lovely friends or subscribers you might have noticed I haven’t really been around. This is hopefully just a temporary thing while I settle in with a new lifestyle thing (ie seeing someone… special) and I’ll make some new videos/ get back on stickam a bit soon.
Actually my mum sent me a story about Goth-attacks… that is people with black hair and lipstick and pearcings getting beaten up for no good reason at all. Well, obviously thats not ‘good’, but it might make an interesting subject for a video.
And the ‘feminism’ one is still in the pipeline… has been for months but it’s such a good subject I don’t want to spoil it with a half-baked video. Actually, if anyone has an opinion of the subject give me a buzz. I have half a mind to turn it into a collab.
I haven’t spell checked or edited this at all, incidently. I’m at work and dog tired and feeling a little guilty. Love you all and I promise to be a good girl again very soon…
Love Art
March 23, 2008
If you haven’t seen the ‘Make Art’ collab video yet then I insist you watch it. I love everything about this collaboration; Paul (CheekyChen) it’s instigator, the 250+ entries and this incredible edit.
If you haven’t heard about this, it’s basically a campaign started by Paul to persuade YouTube to add and ‘Art’ category. Considering the amount of art videos that are posted it’s incredible there isn’t one already. Paul asked all comers to submit one minute videos of themselves creating the words ‘Make Art’ in whatever creative way they fancied. Everyone loved the idea and (as you can see from the video) came up with some beautiful things.
I spent a very pleasant Saturday afternoon making mine; although I was far more proud of the edit than the actual ‘piece’. I’d love to do another creative collab like this again… and I do have an idea for a ‘closed’ one. But we’ll see who agree to take part

*Yeah I could write a “Welcome to the new site of my blog blah blah blah” post, but I’ve actually got some things I’d like to write about. So lets get on with it shall we?*
The ‘Swearing to be British’ video has been up for just over a week now, and (thanks to Jazza) has recieved over 6,500 views and 160 comments. It’s brilliant to have had such a massive response and I’ve really enjoyed watching it grow and the debates that have sprung up around it. But I’ve also experienced allot of the bad aspects of a successful video now; i.e. I’m now scared of a large part of YouTube. They’re NUTTERS. Most of the comments I’ve recieved have been reasonably well thought out, and have at least tried to make some sort of arguement for or against the topic. But a fair chunk have been rude, nasty, bigotted, or just downright stupid. Here are a few examples;
“Does it mean people like you will have to help in a war .hahahahahahah.its people who fight wars so that you can sit in front of your computer talking shit.you cant see it because your thick and historically retarded” ”Britishness isnt hard to understand IF YOU WERE BORN IN Britan U R BRITISH. People that come over in boats are not british and never will be “
“You are a stupid lefty. Stop chatting shit and stop making boring videos. Of course pledging an oath doesn’t mean you’ll have to go and fight.
And yes I would like to pledge an oath of loyalty.”
“British = White.
If you’re not White, you’re not British, it’s a simple concept sweetie. ”
“fuck off to uni and stop talking bollocks.” ”Well im 100% british but i wouldnt do dat alligance crap not only cus da queens a sag bag but because i love america and i wish i was american because everfing is bigger and better der and britain is just a pile of shit layin on top of another pile den another +Our weather shit!!! i no dey ave storms and hurricanes and dat lot but we all get worried and put out big warnings out about 1inch of snow and plus if u go 2 da right place in america den its safe not all shooting dats kentucky + brooklyn”
“I reckon that an oath of allegiance is a great idea, but being in the army ive already taken one hehe, but on a serious note, i dont see the problem with immigrants or anyone else taking an oath, i personally think that it should be something more than an oath if thats possible. i hate multiculturalism its complete bollocks, why is everyone so obsessed with wanting a neighbour from every corner of the bastard globe, and whats so wrong with saying “im british” infact or even “im english”.or even “im scottish” etc. i dont know what the hells happening with “im a person of the world” whatever the fuck that means, i thorougly despise anyone who is completely obsessed with wanting every man and his dog from pakistan and elsewhere moving in, I dont go and do my job killing the twats, just so that theyre mummies daddies brothers, aunties and cousins can come over in a dinghy, and try and blow the fuck out of my family. pointless. Theres nothing wrong with national service either to stop them little cunts who thing theyre hard as fuck running round in gangs from raping grannies and twatting people one on fifty. the little shites wouldnt do that if they had a few years service and the bruises to show it the little nobs. ”
I don’t know about you, but they scare the hell out of me. I’m afraid I actually got drawn into an argument with one of the racists. Bad idea, because as I’m sure you know, those people have their own very special logic. For the most part, if I didn’t like it, I just left it. I haven’t removed any though; and I was in two minds whether or not this was right decision. I didn’t want to cause offence to anybody, but on the other hand I’m not the one causing the offence. And I was sort of half hoping that people reading these comments would have the presence of mind to realise the motives of the people behind them; essentially letting them shoot themselves in the foot.
The main reason I dislike deleting comments is because of and experience I had right back when I just used YouTube for watching videos. Do you remember the video of the BBC reporter blowing up at the Scientologist? When I read the comments below it they were all positive like ‘Look at that idiot!’ and ‘Scientology makes so much sense’… the poster was obviously going through and deleting the negative comments. It made me so angry I went to his channel to see if I could post a negative comment there; and the channel comments was just one long list of people saying ‘We know your censoring!’, which sort of restored my faith.
So I’ll keep up the idiot comments in the hope that people reading them will realise what idiots they are. But I’ve got to say, every time I get a new comment on that video now it makes me nervous. I hate reading that bile.
*Sort of depressing for a first blog but blah, more interesting than ‘woo looky here’ I hope.*
